On November 23rd, the 10th Fudan Chief Economist Forum was held in Shanghai, hosted by the School of Economics at Fudan University and the Global Alumni Association of Fudan School of Economics.

Huang Qifan, academic advisor to the China Finance 40 Forum and former mayor of Chongqing, highlighted that producer services are industries intensive in knowledge, innovation, and talent, playing a vital role in technological innovation and efficiency enhancement. However, China still faces several challenges in this field, including inadequate investment in basic scientific research, low rates of achievement transformation, relatively high logistics costs, and significant potential for green and low-carbon development.

Wu Xiaoqiu, Dean of the National Financial Research Institute at Renmin University of China, emphasized that during the “15th Five-Year” period, reforms should be advanced simultaneously on the supply side, the capital side, and the institutional platform.

Zhang Jun, Dean of the School of Economics at Fudan University, noted that China’s current trade surplus accounts for approximately 5% of GDP. To expand domestic demand, it is necessary to reduce the proportion of the surplus. Strategic adjustments need to be made in the opening up of service trade and exchange rate policies.
