Jointly Safeguarding Adolescents' Online Social Safety

From:Social Sciences Weekly 2026-04-08 22:07

The launch ceremony for the Handbook on Adolescent Online Social Guidance jointly compiled by Beijing Normal University and Xiaohongshu, was held at Beijing Normal University on March 17. Experts and scholars from the fields of education, media, and law, along with representatives of online platforms and parents, attended the event.

The handbook focuses on the profile of adolescents' online social behavior, analyzing their usage patterns and behavioral characteristics such as functional diversity and time differentiation. It points out that adolescents' online social behavior involves seven interrelated risks, including internet addiction and time management issues, physical and mental health concerns, cyberbullying, privacy and data security risks, irrational consumption and financial issues, values and cognitive development challenges, and the decline of real-life social skills. Collaborative efforts among five key parties—adolescents, parents, educators, online platform companies, and society as a whole—are essential to jointly ensure the online social safety of adolescents.
