Human Mechanics & Landscape Rebirth in City Walks

From:Social Sciences Weekly2024-10-24 10:25

In their contribution to the “Social Sciences in Nanjing” 9th issue of 2024, Zhou Jianxin and Wang Furu explore city walks as an innovative path in the realm of urban cultural tourism. They describe how city walks reflect a spiritual resurgence in the face of mass tourism, a cultural narrative embedded within urban imagery, and a rediscovery of the immediate and local surroundings. This practice fosters humanistic exchanges that transcend time and space through dialogic mechanisms. It employs linking tools to counteract social atomization, advocating for humanistic connections. Furthermore, it builds multi-dimensional spatial perceptions and multi-sensory experiences through imagery, and evokes local emotions through humanistic psychological strategies, thus constructing the human mechanics of city walks. These human mechanics are pivotal for the re-creation of urban humanistic landscapes. City walks signify the shift from industrial to humanistic cities, offering a novel perspective for the evolution of modern humanistic economies.
