Systematic Response to the Revolutionary Paradigm Shift in Technological Innovation Research

2025-9-15 10:47

In an article published on Page 3 of Issue 1976 of the “Social Sciences Weekly,” Professor Rui Mingjie from Fudan University highlighted that the new wave of scientific and technological progress, spearheaded by artificial intelligence, digital technologies, and 5G network communication, is advancing at an unprecedented pace. This rapid development is poised to exert far-reaching and unpredictable impacts on the economy, industry, and urban development of human society in the future. As China strives for self-reliance and strength in science and technology, it is imperative to grasp the trend of the revolutionary paradigm shift in scientific and technological innovation research. Accelerating the innovation of the current research paradigm could yield significant results with relatively less effort. The current paradigm of scientific and technological innovation research is undergoing profound transformations: from “hypothesis-driven” to “data/AI-driven,” from “single-discipline” to “interdisciplinary integration,” from “closed laboratories” to “open collaborative networks,” and from the separation of “technology development” and “scientific discovery” to “two-way accelerated iteration.” To effectively respond to these changes, a comprehensive strategy must be developed. This includes reforming the scientific and technological innovation research system, restructuring the research organization system, innovating and sharing research tools, constructing a new-type innovation ecosystem, and transforming talent - training models.
