On September 21, the team led by Professor Xu Jian, chief expert of the Cultural Innovation and Youth Development Institute of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, released the "2023 Global Esports City Evaluation Report", in which Shanghai ranked first in the world for the first time, demonstrating the leading strength of Shanghai in the global esports industry. The report makes a comprehensive evaluation of 20 cities in the world which have achieved great development of esports, providing an important reference for strategic planning of the esports industry in major cities.
The report points out the main shortcomings that limit the development of esports in various cities, and also indicates that it is necessary to push forward the construction of esports culture and promote the internationalization and high-quality development of China's esports industry in order to solve shortcomings. Hangzhou, Shanghai and other core esports cities in the Yangtze River Delta region should seize opportunities, make full use of the Asian Games driving effect and jointly incubate esports cultural brands with international influence. Shanghai should deeply integrate esports culture with its urban development strategy, and make esports become its important cultural brand and urban symbol.
