In honor of the 700th anniversary of the passing of the celebrated Venetian explorer Marco Polo, Civic Museums Foundation of Venice has joined forces with the Shanghai Museum to present the exhibition “The Worlds of Marco Polo: The Journey of a Venetian Merchant in the Thirteenth Century”, which was inaugurated on the morning of April 5, 2024, at Palazzo Ducale in Venice, Italy.

The exhibition showcases an extensive collection of nearly 300 artifacts, drawn from over 45 cultural and research institutions spanning more than 10 countries, including China, Italy, the UK, and France. Luigi Brugnaro, Mayor of Venice, remarked that the exhibition offers visitors a glimpse into Marco Polo's era, showcasing his legacy as a messenger of cultural exchanges and his profound respect for and tolerance of diverse civilizations.

Scheduled to run in Venice until September 29, 2024, the exhibition will then be reimagined as part of an exchange program. It will be presented at the Shanghai Museum in November under the title “East Meets West: China and the World in the Eyes of Marco Polo.” (Images courtesy of the Shanghai Museum).
