The Shanghai Museum announced on May 9th at a press conference that its inaugural exhibition of the “Drawing Inspiration from the Past: Masters of Modern and Contemporary Art” series, titled “Wallace Chan: Half A Century,” will be held at its East branch from July 3 to October 7.
Wallace Chan is a renowned contemporary Chinese jewelry artist. The exhibition, co-curated by the Shanghai Museum and Danish royal jeweler Ms. Nina Hald, will feature over 200 pieces of artistic masterpieces at the Shanghai Museum East Branch.
According to Chu Xiaobo, director of the Shanghai Museum, the newly curated “Drawing Inspiration from the Past” series will focus on modern and contemporary artists who are highly esteemed both in China and beyond. It aims to bring together the artists’ classic works, innovate the presentation of exhibitions, and interpret the humanistic spirit, following the masters in extracting wisdom and inspiration from traditional cultures. The series encourages a boundary-less approach, self-transcendence, and a forward-looking embrace of the future.
