On June 1st, the 12th SIIFC International Conference convened at the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics. Distinguished experts, scholars, officials from relevant government departments, and business professionals from the Chinese mainland, the United Kingdom, the United States, Switzerland, Canada, and Hong Kong, China participated in this event.

Sustainability is the defining hue of the evolution towards new-quality productive forces. Green finance, recognized as one of the “five major themes” by the Central Financial Conference, is a pivotal element in this transformation. The 2024 SIIFC International Conference delved into discussions on “How Green Finance Can Support the Development of New-Quality Productive Forces” and “The Current State and Future Prospects of Global ESG Development.”

Prof. Liu Yuanchun, President of the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, posited that academic introspection on the global ESG trend must reject the concept of “pseudo ESG.” Prof. Hou Wenxuan, a member of the European Academy of Sciences and Chair Professor at the University of Edinburgh, stressed the importance of collective action to tackle the challenges in the development of green finance. The conference featured keynote speeches, roundtable discussions, and industry-specific sessions to present and dissect various “Chinese Case Studies” and “Shanghai Models” in the realm of green finance development.
