On December 3rd and 4th, the Top M20+ International Museum Conference organized by the Shanghai Museum, was held at the museum’s east branch. Nearly 100 representatives from prestigious museums around the globe convened in Shanghai to engage in discussions about the opportunities and challenges museums face amidst the evolution of our times, and to celebrate the full completion and opening of the Shanghai Museum’s east branch.
Museums have become an increasingly vital part of the “spiritual homeland” for the Chinese public. Last year, Chinese museums recorded nearly 1.3 billion visits, with the Shanghai Museum alone expecting over 6 million visitors to its old and new venues this year. Chu Xiaobo, director of the Shanghai Museum, spoke on the museum’s transformation and continuity, highlighting that while the “new structure,” “new brand,” and “new experiences” are evolving, its commitment to excellence, the mission to serve the people, and the dedication to embodying the spirit remain steadfast.
During the conference, participants from the international museum community explored themes such as “Innovating from Tradition—Preservation and Interpretation of Cultural Heritage,” “Harmony in Diversity—Bridging Globalization and Localization,” and “Envisioning the Future—Empowerment through Technology and Public Engagement.”
