The "Academic Symposium on Youth Protection and Crime Prevention in Contemporary China" was held in Shanghai on March 1st, 2025. Co-hosted by East China University of Political Science and Law (ECUPSL) and the Shanghai Law Society, the symposium reviewed, summarized, and looked ahead to the issues of youth rights protection and crime prevention in China. During the conference, the new book “Forty Years of Youth Protection and Crime Prevention in China,” authored by Prof. Xu Jian, a distinguished professor at ECUPSL, was released.
Wan Chun, president of the Chinese Society of Criminology, emphasized that deepening research on juvenile crime prevention must be problem-oriented. He stressed the importance of closely collaborating with practical departments and enhancing the application value of academic research in guiding practice. Jia Yu, president of the Chinese Association of Criminal Law Studies, highlighted that judicial governance in youth protection and crime prevention should prioritize the protection of minors as the cornerstone of juvenile criminal justice, while adhering to the principle of tolerance without indulgence. He also underscored the need to fully leverage digital technology to empower judicial protection for minors at all levels, develop digital applications, and build a more robust protection system for minors through digital justice.
