On September 9th, the launch ceremony of “Introduction to Area Studies (2nd Edition)” and the symposium on the construction of three major systems of area studies were held at the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences. The event was co-organized by the Institute of International Studies of the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences and the Shanghai Association for Area Studies, with the support of the Publicity Department of the Party Committee of the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences.
Gan Chunhui, the Executive Vice President of the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, noted in his speech that area studies, as an emerging interdisciplinary discipline, is the product of both national strategic needs and the development of international academia. The world structure is undergoing profound changes, and in-depth research on the historical context, cultural traditions, institutional structures, and practical paths of different countries and regions is of great significance. Wang Jian, the editor-in-chief of the new book, introduced the revisions made to the book. Scholars attending the symposium agreed that the publication of this book provides new academic support for the development of area studies.
