The 2nd World Conference on China Studies was held at the Shanghai International Conference Center from October 13 to 15, 2025. The theme of the conference, “Historical and Contemporary China: A Global Perspective,” profoundly reflects the breadth of Chinese Studies in bridging ancient and modern times, as well as the depth in exploring the civilizational connotations of the Chinese path and uncovering its global value.

At present, China is advancing the great cause of building a strong country and achieving national rejuvenation through Chinese-style modernization. This approach transcends the traditional “debate between the ancient and the modern, the Chinese and the Western,” and is highly appealing to researchers from both developed and developing countries. As a cross-cultural academic practice, China studies across the world naturally possesses the attribute of connecting Chinese and foreign civilizations. The study of China studies has entered a new stage characterized by collaboration, sharing, and consensus. This year’s World Conference on China Studies highlights integrative research, emphasizes a global perspective, and showcases the “broad-spectrum” nature of Chinese Studies research through a multidisciplinary approach, practice orientation, and a youth perspective.
